John Bolton 1956 – 2024

In February 2024, we had the sad news that John Bolton, a member of Somerset ASA’s Management Committee, had passed away suddenly.

John, like so many of us, came into the sport to support his daughter, and he became treasurer of Dorset County. He also helped set up the website for the South West Region. Latterly, he joined Somerset ASA and worked tirelessly, setting u communication systems and advising on governance of the county.

He was always very knowledgeable and kept abreast of all the latest developments in swimming. The county website and news feeds kept u all informed about the county news and from further afield. He always seemed to know when our swimmers were swimming, even if this was in some relatively obscure event, and had a report on it. Even when swimmers had left the county, there was still an honourable mention. He was across it all.

We extend our condolences to John’s family, and those that he worked with and supported. In his memory and in recognition of his contribution to our sport, we have created a development meet that John would have approved of, one for long distance development of developing swimmers.

Thank you John for everything you did for our sport. Let the competition begin!
