Thank you to all those who volunteered at the Teams Day this weekend. It was very encouraging to see so many people returning to the team and great to meet new people too, including four young volunteers.
Special thanks go to those who stepped out of their comfort zones and tried something new – recording and announcing can seem a little unnerving but we had four people try this for the first time this meet and all did a fantastic job!
Here are just a few of our wonderful team in action:

When putting the volunteer schedule together, we build in plenty of cover. It is true, we could run our meets with fewer volunteers, but we want to ensure that no one feels under pressure and that everyone can have an enjoyable experience whilst meeting people from other clubs. By asking more people to contribute just a little of their time, we hope to build a more sustainable approach to running our sport.
Some stats to share with you:
- Including officials, an impressive 81 people volunteered to support our 438 swimmers this weekend.
- On the podium for club volunteering hours per swimmer were:
- Gold: Burnham on Sea 🥇
- Silver: Yeovil 🥈
- Bronze: Millfield🥉
– great to see some new names on the podium!

Club Secretaries/Chairs: do get in touch if you’d like to know how your club members supported the meet.
If you have any suggestions or feedback please let us know, otherwise we hope to work with you again at the coming meet:
The John Bolton
This is a new distance development meet – 16th and 23rd November – to commemorate John who worked tirelessly to support Somerset swimmers and who took a particular interest in widening participation.
This is a chance for swimmers to try something new or perhaps return to an event they’ve not swum for a while. We’ve had some lovely sustainable commemorative medals made for TJB which all participants will receive.
The closing date for entries is the 5pm on Friday 25th October.
